This is the second year that I have taught this course and this year was even better than the first with a first field trip weekend to Colmac and the Valley's largest solar power facility...this weekend the seven of us ventured out to the WinTec wind turbine field and then down to the Salton Sea and CalEnergy's geothermal energy facility. At WinTec our gracious host Fritz Noble instructed us in site characteristics, tower types and sizes, wind speed and energy production, turbine replacements and planning and permitting processes.  Incredible...the guy is fast becoming the Godson of Wind...his dad the Godfather :-) [caption id="attachment_346" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Fritz Noble at WinTec giving the Students a thourough overview of the wind business."][/caption] I want to thank Danny Skelton of Colmac, Fritz Noble of Wintec and Mark Gran of CalEnergy for making this years x460 course a fantastic success!  It is the dedicated energy professionals that have been carrying the Renewable's Torch these past twenty years while the world finally caught up with them :-) [caption id="attachment_347" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Dr. Alfredo Martinez-Morales (center) and UCR Class of 2010"][/caption] [caption id="attachment_348" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Wind at the San Gorgonia Pass"][/caption]
